Conservation challenges in boreal forests

Conservation of forest biodiversity is implemented by setting-aside valuable areas, safeguarding biodiversity during normal forest management operations, and restoring altered forests. Recently, research in boreal forests has increasingly focused on the ecological effects of management and restoration. I will review the current status of conservation research in European boreal forests, provide some empirical examples, and identify some future challenges, both scientifically and practically.
